Our client base includes regional and national law firms, representing and advising prominent businesses and private individuals. We also provide advice and representation under the public access scheme to members of the public; planning consultants; managing directors and doctors.

Our contemporary offices are easily accessible located in central Bristol near the City’s historic harbour and nearby major road and rail links.

Events and seminars

St John’s regularly hosts CPD accredited seminars / conferences in Chambers or at external venues to suit. Our members also deliver CPD accredited in-house, tailor-made training seminars to solicitor firms throughout the South West.  Our seminars provide up-to-date, interesting and relevant topics which cover a wide range of legal disciplines.

Charity work

We  firmly believe in business giving back to the community and support local charities by hosting fundraising events and seminars.  As a result we have raised significant funds for national and local UK charities such as Headway, Spinal Injuries Association and AvMA.

In addition, Barristers and members of St John’s staff continue to engage with other community initiatives such as the 10k Bristol Business Challenge, Taunton Dragon Boat Race and London Marathon.

St John’s Chambers was formed in January 1978 by 6 barristers keen to break the mould of conventional practice in Bristol and originally occupied premises in Broad Street close to St John’s Gate.

As the chambers grew it moved initially to Small Street and subsequently, reflecting the need for modern, efficient and effective professional resources to its current premises in Victoria Street, close to the new Civil Justice Court building in Redcliffe.

How we operate

St John’s Chambers operates as a group of independent individual barristers, each with their own specialist area of practice.

We are widely acknowledged for our eminence in six core practice groups, Commercial & Chancery, Personal Injury, Family, Public & Administrative Law, Clinical Negligence and Employment.

To ensure that we meet the needs of all our individual clients, we have specialist teams within each of these practice groups who provide expert advice and representation in over thirty major areas of law.

Each of our practice groups are supported by a dedicated clerking team. Our clerking teams assist solicitors and other clients by recommending the barrister or team best suited to deal with a particular case.
