Background
After successfully completing his pupillage at St John’s Chambers, Richard joined the Commercial and Chancery Practice Group as a full tenant in October 2007. He has a general commercial and chancery practice.
Richard worked as Judicial Assistant to Lord Justice Carnwath from January until March 2010.

Richard regularly accepts instructions in disputes involving:
- Landlord and tenant (residential, commercial and agricultural)

- Unlawful eviction

Banking
Richard has been instructed in a number of cases involving challenges to the fairness of bank charges.
He also acts for both lenders and borrowers in disputes concerning loan agreements.

Richard recently acted on behalf of a trustee in bankruptcy in an application to set aside a transaction at an undervalue under section 339 of the Insolvency Act 1986.
Building and Construction
Richard acts for both builders and property owners in building disputes of all kinds.
Examples of his experience include:
- Advising in a case on the refurbishment of a hotel
- Appearing in a trial on the renovation of a Grade 2 listed building
Wills Trusts and Probate
Richard regularly advises and appears in cases involving:
- Construction of wills
- Administration of estates
- Applications under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996
- Applications to remove personal representatives
- Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975

Richard’s interests include playing football and attending the theatre.
