Areas of Practice
Alex practises in the chancery and commercial fields with a particularly strong expertise in property and probate matters.
His property practice encompasses the full range of real property issues, and includes landlord & tenant work, residential, commercial and agricultural. He has appeared in courts at all levels in relation to property disputes, including an appearance as junior counsel in the House of Lords in Bettison v. Langton [2002] 1 AC 27, a case concerning rights of common. He also has extensive experience of adjudications before HM Land Registry.
Alex is the co-editor of the Property Transactions section of the specialist property law website www.propertylawuk.net
His probate practice includes both advisory and contentious work relating to trusts, wills and the administration of estates, including claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Alex is also regularly instructed in cases involving the Court of Protection.
In addition, Alex acts in a wide range of commercial litigation cases, as well as professional negligence cases relating to his specialist areas of practice, particularly against solicitors and surveyors.

- Drake v Fripp [2011] EWCA Civ. 1279 (Court of Appeal – led by Leslie Blohm QC) – Effect of the general boundaries rule on registered title to land, and its effect on the ability to rectify a registered title; construction of conveyance by reference to physical features.
- Cowderoy v Cranfield [2011] EWHC 1616 (Ch) (Morgan J) – validity of will disputed on grounds of testamentary capacity, want of knowledge and approval and undue influence
