George has experience across the range of employment and discrimination work covered by Chambers, both at first instance and in the Employment Appeal Tribunal. Areas of expertise include;
- sex, race and disability discrimination;
- constructive and unfair dismissal;
- TUPE transfers;
- working time;
- unlawful deduction of wages;
- redundancy;
- whistle-blowing.
George also deals with work-related matters in the civil courts, such as wrongful dismissal, restrictive covenants and partnership disputes.
Some cases recent cases;
- unfair dismissal cases involving teachers, a teaching assistant, a supermarket manager, and a pub manager;
- disability discrimination cases concerning reasonable adjustments;
- appeals to the EAT concerning costs, interlocutory matters, and apparent bias on the part of the Tribunal Chairman;
- defending High Court injunction proceedings on behalf of a former director of a medical equipment company who was accused of breaching a restrictive covenant;
- acting for partners in a firm of independent financial advisers who wished to remove an underperforming partner.
George is a member of the Attorney General’s Regional Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. He can therefore undertake work on behalf of all Government departments and related public bodies.
- ‘Let Sleeping Judges Lie?’, (2006) 150 Sol Jo 386 – advises on law and tactics when judges and tribunal members doze off or appear drunk during a hearing.
- ‘Time to bite the bullet’, (2006) 156 NLJ 586 – argues for reform of the employment tribunal costs regime.
- ‘Call that Work?’, (2006) 150 Sol J 1212 – advises on how the working time and minimum wage provisions apply to “on call” working patterns.
