Background

Claire joined the Employment Practice Group in October 2010 following the successful completion of her pupillage with St John’s Chambers. Prior to her pupillage Claire studied for an LLM in Commercial Law at Bristol University where she took a module on Individual Employment Rights and wrote her dissertation on employee involvement in the workplace. She also took the Employment Law option on the BVC.

Areas of Practice

Employment

Claire has an expanding employment law practice and acts for both claimants and respondents.

Claire regularly advises on the merits of claims involving issues such as unfair and constructive dismissal, redundancy, sex, race and disability discrimination, the TUPE Regulations, the Working Time Regulations, breach of contract, and unlawful deductions from wages. She also has experience of drafting pleadings.

Claire has appeared in the Employment Tribunal in matters involving unfair and constructive dismissal, wrongful dismissal, race, sex and disability discrimination, post-employment victimisation, the TUPE regulations and unlawful deduction from wages. She has appeared at pre-hearing reviews on jurisdiction issues and applications to review under the Employment Tribunal Rules of Procedure. She has also assisted in an application for interim relief in a case involving allegations of protected disclosures.

Wherever possible Claire is happy to act within tight deadlines.

Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence

Claire is also a member of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Practice Groups.

Interests

Claire enjoys playing most sports, particularly netball. She was awarded a double blue whilst at Cambridge University and continues to play for Crossbow Netball Club in the Southwest Regional League.
