Areas of Practice
Child Care Law
As a family law specialist Jody is able to offer clients advice and representation with regard to all litigation arising out of the breakdown of family relationships. Jody also undertakes ancillary relief work and so is well placed to represent clients “across the board.”
Jody is regularly instructed by mothers and fathers to litigate private law proceedings for contact and residence orders. He is happy to accept both publicly and privately funded work.
Jody is experienced in conducting care proceedings at all stages. He has a particular affinity for representing parents, but has also been instructed by local authorities and guardians.
Jody is particularly interested in the following areas of law:
Public Law Cases involving substance abuse
Prior to coming to the Bar, Jody worked and qualified as a drugs outreach worker, and also worked as a paralegal for a firm of criminal solicitors based in London. He is happy to work with the most demanding clients that this area can provide.
Child Support
Jody is experienced in this unfamiliar and technical area, having appeared both before the Child Support Tribunal and the Commissioners (now the Upper Tribunal). He has also lectured on the new Child Maintenance Act 2008.
Domestic Violence and Harassment
Jody has experience in making and defending applications for injunctions, both under the Family Law Act 1996 and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
Matrimonial Finance
As a family law specialist Jody is able to offer clients advice and representation with regard to all litigation arising out of the breakdown of family relationships. Jody also undertakes Children Act work and so is well placed to represent clients “across the board.”
Jody is regularly instructed by both husbands and wives to appear in ancillary relief proceedings. He is happy to accept both publicly and privately funded work. He is an active participant in Chamber’s advice on settlement scheme.
Jody has a particular interest in the more technical areas of matrimonial law, including:
Claims between Cohabitants
Jody is always happy to advise on claims between cohabitants arising from the law of trusts and/or proprietary estoppel. He is equally happy litigating proceedings under either the Family Proceedings Rules or the Civil Proceedings Rules and will settle proceedings for solicitors unfamiliar with the CPR.
Inheritance Act Claims
Jody is experienced in this area and is happy to advise your clients on the merits of any claims they may have against the estates of their friends and relatives.
Professional Negligence
Jody advises and represents claimants and defendants in professional negligence actions arising in his specialist area of family. This includes drafting Particulars of Claim, Defences, and advising as to settlement.
