Areas of Practice
Family Law
Catriona has practised at the Bar in Bristol and the Western Circuit since 1983. She has specialised solely in family law since 1989, since when she has spanned the family law spectrum in Children Act cases from private law contact to change of name, with a particular interest in relocation disputes – to the public law arena in the House Lords in:
- Re S (Minors) (Care Order: Implementation of Care Plan)
- Re W (Minors) (Care Order: Adequacy of Care Plan)
She is also instructed in ancillary relief work.
Recommendations
- Chambers UK (2008) – Catriona Duthie has a reputation for ancillary relief and private children law work that extends beyond the west of England. However, she tends to spend around two-thirds of her time on public law Children Act proceedings, proving ‘really feisty in a good way.’ Sources say that ‘underdogs in particular love her fear-less determination.’
- She has previously been reported in Chambers UK as a leader in their field in 2004 as ‘a punchy advocate who always infuses her cases with a bit of oomph’, in 2005 as a ‘tough terrier who fights her corner hard’ and in 2007 as “…‘fearless and determined’, and is esteemed for her performance in ‘the really feisty cases, where you need to put up a good argument’…”
- Legal 500 (2007) – Catriona Duthie is a popular choice for her robust advocacy
- Legal 500 in 2006 describe her as ‘merciless when necessary’.
