Kamala joined St John’s Chambers in 1996, having worked for the Econmic and Social Research Council in the area of access to justice at London University.
Kamala has experience of a range of private and public children cases, having acted for local authorities, parents and guardians as well as matrimonial cases, particularly ancillary relief proceedings. She has given legal training on domestic violence and matrimonial law to social services’ employees, Women’s Aid National helpline workers and law centre advisers.
Within the area of local government, planning and environment work, Kamala has specialised in cases with an environmental aspect, which has included acting in civil and criminal proceedings and planning appeals. She has represented local authorities as well as well as public interest groups and the Soil Association. She has given lectures and workshops on planning and environment issues. Recent areas of work have involved telecommunications masts and genetically modified organisms.
Kamala has an international background with ties to the US and India. She has been active in community groups and has been a governor of a state and an independent secondary school. She is a trustee of Bristol Charities.
