Family Law
Abigail Bond has a broad family law practice with an emphasis on Children Act work.
She has a particular interest in care proceedings where she represents parents, Guardians and local authorities. Reflecting her level of call, most of her workload involves fact-finding hearings concerning allegations of sexual abuse or non-accidental injury. In addition, she often represents learning disabled parents through the Official Solicitor, where she strives to ensure that her clients are properly and fairly assessed and given every opportunity to retain the care of their children.
Recent Cases
- Representing a father whose baby suffered an apparently non-accidental head injury: the child was eventually returned to the parents and the local authority, on the basis of the expert medical evidence, withdrew its care order application.
- Representing a mother in a finding of fact hearing where her daughter was thought to have suffered sexual abuse (the case involved five medical experts and several alleged perpetrators).
- Representing a mother in a finding of fact hearing concerning allegations of sexual abuse by family members and in which the teenage child complainant gave evidence.
Abigail also undertakes complex private law work such as high conflict residence disputes, cases where the principle of contact is in issue, and applications for leave to remove from the jurisdiction.
In addition, she handles cohabitation disputes under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996, and Inheritance Act work.
