Areas of Practice

Personal Injury
Darren is a Personal Injury junior with a national practice which is centred on the South West and Wales. He joined St. John’s Chambers in 2006 having completed his pupillage in a Chambers in Temple and has over four years experience at the Bar.

Darren practices in all areas of personal injury law for both Claimants and Defendants.

He regularly appears and advises in complex health and safety claims and has a detailed practical understanding of the six pack regulations. He has particular interest in industrial disease litigation especially pneumoconisosis, industrial deafness, vibration white finger and claims relating to the mining industry.

Darren has substantial experience of public and occupiers liability cases, road traffic and credit hire claims and also appears in CRU appeals, CICA hearings and inquests often for very vulnerable witnesses.

Travel Litigation, Aviation and Maritime Law
Darren has a great deal of experience in travel, aviation and maritime litigation having appeared regularly for two of the major tour operators in the UK and one of the leading international passenger ferry services and regularly representing Claimant tourists.

Darren has developed a specialist practice in holiday litigation and has appeared and advised in numerous cases concerning:

• Personal injury and purely contractual claims under The Package Travel, Package Holiday and Package Tours Regulations 1992
• Accidents during international carriage by air under the Montreal Convention
• Accidents during international carriage by sea under Athens Conventions
• Domestic air and merchant shipping accidents.
• Employment maritime claims under The Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) Regulations 1997 and related regulations.

Costs
Darren regularly deals with complex costs arguments and represents both the paying and receiving party at detailed assessments.
