Personal Injury
Emma started her practice in a specialist personal injury and clinical negligence set of chambers in London in 1998 moving to Bristol and St John’s Chambers in 2000. She specialises exclusively in personal injury law with a particular interest in civil actions against the police and clinical negligence.
Emma acts for both claimants and defendants and regularly accepts instructions on a CFA basis.
Emma undertakes all types of personal injury work with particular experience in:
- Employers’ Liability including Disease Litigation and limitation disputes
- Highways claims – Emma is on the approved Counsel list for Zurich Municipal
- Assaults and other accidents in care homes
- Claims for damages following sexual abuse
- CRU Appeals
- Criminal Injuries Compensation

Clinical negligence
Emma has maintained a practice in clinical negligence since leaving London and has experience in both clinical and dental negligence cases including difficult cases concerning:
- negligent gynaecological procedures;
- complicated causation disputes where there is an issue as to whether injuries were caused in a road traffic accident or potentially negligent medical treatment;
- the alleged negligent injection of chemicals during routine root canal treatment and its rare and catastrophic effects.
Civil Fraud
Emma has experience in civil fraud matters acting both for Defendant insurance companies alleging fraud and Claimants who are accused of making fraudulent claims. Emma has dealt with a number of these cases to trial but can also provide tactical advice upon how best to defend or make fraud arguments at an early stage.
Emma also deals with Low velocity claims, cases where malingering may be suspected, exaggerated claims, cases where interim payments have needed to be clawed back and has successfully obtained vexatious litigant orders in matters where a litigant in person has brought numerous suspicious claims.
Inquests
Emma has experience in all types of inquests and has particular expertise and knowledge of article 2 inquests. Emma has been instructed in a number of high profile matters acting for private prisons, the Great Western Ambulance Service, NHS Trusts, private and local authority care homes and large construction companies. Emma has also represented the interests of bereaved families following deaths in Iraq.
