Legislation laid before Parliament yesterday, 19/3/20, increases the sum awarded for bereavement from £12,980 to £15,120.
It comes into force on 1/5/20 and only applies to causes of action accruing after that date. Accordingly current claims are still limited to £12,980.
There are no changes to those who qualify for the award.
This brings the position in England and Wales back into line with the position in Northern Ireland, where the bereavement award was increased to £15,100 on 1/5/19.
