Beatrice is a barrister specialising in clinical negligence, personal injury and inquests.
Beatrice maintains a busy practice in the fields of Clinical Negligence, Inquests, and Personal Injury. She is regularly praised by her clients for her resolute advocacy, knowledge, clear advice and attention to detail. She often appears against more senior Counsel and has been described as a formidable opponent.
Noted by the Legal 500 as a Rising Star in Clinical Negligence and Inquests, she has been commended as an “outstanding junior counsel”. Beatrice is often instructed for her excellent client handling skills where she assists her clients with ease and guides them through complex litigation.
Clinical Negligence
Beatrice advises on clinical negligence cases involving a diverse range of medical fields and treatments. She is frequently instructed both on behalf of Claimants and Defendants.
Beatrice regularly appears in the High Court and has a particular interest in orthopaedics, oncology, obstetrics, delayed diagnosis and dental treatment. She brings a depth of experience beyond her level of call, reflected through her competency of resolving high-value matters through JSM and mediation.
Inquests
Beatrice has considerable experience acting in multi-day inquests, including those involving expert evidence, juries and the engagement of Article 2.
Whilst representing bereaved families, she has successfully obtained Regulation 28 Prevention of Future Death Reports against healthcare providers and key national organisations, such as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Her natural ability to communicate well with clients in very difficult circumstances is often commended.
Beatrice acknowledges the impact that inquest proceedings can have on treating clinicians and those involved in the fatal events. She is well-versed in supporting witnesses and is regularly instructed in high-profile and sensitive matters.
She has experience dealing with complex inquests where submissions have been required on issues of neglect, unlawful killing, corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter.
Personal Injury
Beatrice accepts instructions for RTA, Occupiers’ Liability, Employers’ Liability, Highways and Fatal Accident Act claims. She appears in Fast track, Intermediate track and Multi Track trials. She acts in CCMCs and all types of interlocutory hearings.
She has experience in proceedings where fraud or dishonesty is alleged and has been recommended for her robust approach to cross-examination.
Professional development
Beatrice participates in our annual clinical negligence and personal injury conferences. She provides a wide range of training support, through our podcast channel, written articles, and in-person training events. She is happy to receive requests for specialist training that can be tailored to your needs. She is passionate about supporting junior members of the legal profession and is the current organiser of our Junior Toolkit seminar series.
Outside of Chambers, she is the Legal Secretary for the Bristol Medico-Legal Society, arranging networking events for the local legal community.
Background
Beatrice studied Law at Newcastle University, graduating with First Class Honours. During her time at Newcastle, Beatrice was President of the Bar Society and volunteered as an Adviser for the Citizens Advice Bureau. She worked closely on the Citizens Advice Bureau’s Mesothelioma Project which provided support to individuals diagnosed with mesothelioma.
