As part of the S2UC initiative (a subsidiary of Cancer Research UK), April held its Dog Walkies Challenge. Participants were to pledge to walk 60 miles with their canine friend(s) to raise money and awareness for this vital area of research. Elaine Jewell-Moore, our Family Team Leader, undertook this challenge with Darcey the Cavapoochon and smashed not only the 60 miles in 23 days but also much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.
Alongside her walking challenge, Elaine also took part in an online quiz with Attolife where she got 91% of the questions correct in just over 6 minutes and won £750 to go to her chosen charity.
Elaine has raised a total of £1,582 + gift aid of £205 which is fantastic!
Elaine said “Pretty much all of us will have been touched by cancer in our lives, and it is tragic that we still cannot save so many of those struck down with this awful disease. 100% of the money raised on this challenge will go directly towards speeding up life-saving research, with the hope that by 2034 this research will see 3 in 4 people in the UK survive their cancer. Despite suffering with various health conditions, the knowledge that this money would help so much kept spurring me on. For Darcey, she lost her first ‘Mummy’ to brain cancer when she was still a pup, so this was just as important to her as it was to me. Thank you to everyone who generously donated.”
