Many congratulations to Alex Troup KC and Lucy Reed KC who were sworn in as King’s Counsel at Westminster Hall on 27th March 2023.

Their appointments provide a boost to our Commercial & Chancery and Family & Divorce teams, further strengthening St John’s position as a leading set in the South West, with 8 silks and over 80 juniors.

Alex Troup KC was called to the bar in 1998 and is ranked as the only ‘star individual’ on the Western Circuit in chancery matters by Chambers UK and is Head of our Wills & Trusts team. For the second year running Alex has been identified as the only ‘star ranked’ leading professional adviser to the Private Wealth market (outside London), where he is featured in the High Net Worth Guide 2022.

Lucy Reed KC was called to the bar in 2002, and has been specialising solely in Children Act cases, dealing with complex care work and contentious private law matters. She is Chair of The Transparency Project and has been appointed as the legal blogger for The Transparency Implementation Group. Lucy has been blogging about family law matters since 2007 at www.pinktape.co.uk.

It has been reported that out of 279 applicants, 96 received the coveted title of KC. The selection process involves demonstrating excellence in all the competencies required, as well as being recommended by the Lord Chancellor, emphasising what a fantastic achievement this is.

We are absolutely delighted for Alex and Lucy. They have thoroughly earned these appointments. They are tremendous barristers and we are very proud to have them here at St John’s Chambers.”
